Role of ICT in enhancing agricultural productivity: a study with reference to Kerala State

There is a flooding of information on agriculture also due to increased research and development activities in agriculture and allied sectors. The information so generated has to be transferred to the farming community with speed for technology adoption. Application of ICT in agricultural information transfer cycle has paved the way for Informatics led development of agricultural sector all over the world. The paper examines use of information and communication technologies for agricultural extension services at the Kerala Agricultural University and the Department of Agriculture of Kerala Government. It discusses select programmes launched in the region with the aim of increasing agricultural productivity and attaining food security.
