Development of Knowledge Resource Base for Culture in Indonesia
Abstract
Gives a historical perspective of the development of Cultural Network System in Indonesia. Traces out the attempts for setting up National Cultural Informatics Centre and Research Units in Indonesia, the concerned projects and proposals in the initial phases and the present status. Discusses in detail the Indonesian Digital Library Network - a distributed collection of local library networks, digital library servers, content held by different regions, metadata, and people for the development of the Indonesian national knowledge-base. The aspects, that increases digital divide like lack of connectivity, content, community, commerce, capacity, culture, cooperation, and capital and the recommendation to narrow this gap are provided in the context of time and region.
