Abstract

This is a discussion on State Library Legislation forming part of Ranganathan’s Library Development Plan. After briefly tracing out the history of the attempt for Library legislation in India, he presents a model draft of Library Act for the use of the Government of the constituent States. He also gives some model draft rules, which will have to be framed under the Act. There is also a reproduction of the Madras Public Library Act of 1948 drafted by Ranganathan and some observations on it.
