Informatics for Meeting the Challenges to Public Health
Abstract
Innumerable public health catastrophes caused by environmental degradation are presently threatening human existence. Meeting these challenges requires more transparency, accessibility and reliability of medical information to help policymakers take informed decisions. Informatics offers new pathways for medical discovery and investigation. Specialized branches of informatics related to health and biomedicine such as Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Informatics have emerged. They use computer and communication technology to improve medical research and development as well as health care systems by reducing costs, increasing patient safety and improving quality of services.

Authors are also encouraged to archive their published articles in institutional repositories, personal websites, or other platforms, with full citation of the journal version. Pre-print versions posted online should include a citation and link to the final published version in IS as soon as the issue is available; post-print versions (including the final publisher's PDF) should include a citation and link to the journal's website.
