Namboothiri's Drawings: Unique Documentation of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Abstract


Artist Namboothiri, left an indelible mark on cultural landscape and heritage conservation efforts. His was an extraordinary journey as an artist, bringing the cultural past and historical and literary characters to life through line sketches. His distinctive, evocative lines captured the essence of India's intangible cultural heritage. It reflected people, and spaces, customs, festivals, architectural marvels, historical clothing and attire, regional styles, everyday life, emotions, personality, the ecosystem, and movements from diverse cultures of the land inviting viewers to explore and engage with the past. His unique ability to blend tradition with innovation made his art a bridge between the past and the present. Namboothri’s drawings serve as a unique documentation that can preserve and celebrate India's intangible cultural heritage.
