Designing Library Automation Package In-house

Abstract

Library automation is automating the house keeping operations of a library like entering the records of new book, retrieving the details of book available in the library, recording the book transactions in the library, preparing book selection lists, automatically generating supply orders from the selection lists, management of data related to periodicals receive etc. This paper proposes a framework for development of a library automation package in-house. Library automation packages can maintain centralized repository of information about the collections as well as transactions related to the central library and all departmental libraries of a college or university. The Library automation package can keep track of records related to current books, members, book issue returns etc and numerous other aspects. The proposed automation package can allow a library to efficiently manage all house keeping operations in an easy and convenient mode.
